THE government and the Health Ministry (MOH) need to train more experts in the field of rare disease to allow for early diagnosis and treatment, a clinical geneticist said.
Dr Thong Meow Keong, head of the genetic medicine unit in the department of paediatrics at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), said this would help improve mortality among children, who often die due to late diagnosis.
